About

Tjalling Halbertsma (1969, The Netherlands) has written extensively about China and Mongolia. His travel writing covers topics such as Mongolia’s search for Wild Man, China’s thirteenth century discovery of Europe, and the recently lost Nestorian Heritage of Inner Mongolia (which resulted in 2007 in a Ph.D. at Leiden University and the English publication of ‘Early Christian Remains of Inner Mongolia’ [Brill, 2008]).

Translations of his books are supported with a publishing grant by the Foundation for the Production and Translation of Dutch Literature (for further details see Books).

Halbertsma  has consulted in China and Mongolia for a wide range of individuals and organizations, including Leiden University, The World Bank, the US based campaign and public relations firm GMMB, and worked as advisor to the Prime Minister of Mongolia and the President of Mongolia. He is currently stationed in Ulaanbaatar as Attaché of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Beijing.
